Bicentenary Logo

cms-200-year-logo

The bicentenary logo speaks of the story of CMS College – its foundation, its history, its vision, and its impact. The towering central structure, taken from church architecture, and shaped as the letter ‘M’, represents the missionaries, the Church Missionary Society and the Church of England which had a magnificent vision to see beyond boundaries. The four pillars (as designed in the three-dimensional structure) speak of the four directions, implying the impact the pioneers have had upon the four corners of the world; it also signifies the global presence that CMS College enjoys today through its sons and daughters. The unique, round design of the pillars is modeled on the architecture of the land, as seen in CMS College and the various other buildings erected by the missionaries in and around Kottayam. The flaming torches above the pillars spread the light of wisdom that brightens every dark corner of the world. The pillars enshrine a pedestal with an imprint ‘200’ – signifying the precious heritage enriched through two centuries. On this pedestal is an open book –to remind us that, beyond conventional academics, learning in CMS draws inspiration from nature outside the classroom walls, and values deeper than the letter of the rulebook.

The logo is a masterstroke of Shri Kanai Kunhiraman, affectionately called the ‘raja shilpi’ (royal sculptor) of Kerala. The story of the College, followed by a visit to the campus, impressed him. The bicentenary logo signifies the inspiration CMS College has had upon this high priest of art.
